Working fire in Lindenhurst, 1-17-16

On January 17, 2016, around 8 p.m., reports of a house fire began flooding the FoxCom dispatch system in the 2800 block of Glenarye Drive in Lindenhurst. Fire units from Lake Villa FPD arrived to find a large two-story home fully engulfed in flames. Firefighters immediately went defensive, focusing on protecting structures on both sides of the house. Additional help came from Antioch, Gurnee, and Newport fire departments, but due to the combination of strong winds, extremely cold temperatures, and the intense fire already burning upon arrival, the home was ultimately a total loss. Fortunately, the adjacent buildings only sustained minor damage. Jeff Rudolph captured some powerful images from the scene, showing the challenging conditions firefighters faced. One photo features a fire engine coated in ice, highlighting the harsh winter weather. Another shows a female firefighter also covered in frost, emphasizing the difficulty of working in such extreme conditions. The night sky was lit up by the flames, creating a dramatic backdrop for the ongoing firefighting efforts. These photos truly capture the intensity and danger of the situation that night. This incident serves as a reminder of the risks firefighters face every day, especially during severe weather. Their dedication and quick response helped prevent further damage and protect nearby homes. Thanks to Jeff Rudolph for sharing these important visuals.
