A few years ago, Hyundai posed a bold question: "What if cars could walk?" The answer came in the form of Elevate, a groundbreaking vehicle that can transition from a car into a four-legged walking machine. This unique concept was made possible through the use of Autodesk generative design, which helped create lightweight yet durable legs capable of handling the torque of electric motors. Elevate is designed not only for off-road exploration but also for disaster response, where traditional vehicles often fall short. Its ability to navigate challenging terrain opens up new possibilities for transportation in remote or difficult environments. With its innovative design, Elevate represents a major leap forward in mobility technology.

INDUSTRY DISRUPTOR

Briggs Automotive Company has long been known for its high-performance BAC Mono, a lightweight race car that weighs just 570 kg. For the latest version, the team used Autodesk Fusion 360 to apply generative design principles to the wheels. This approach allowed them to explore multiple design options while maintaining performance and aesthetic standards. The result was a wheel that is 35% lighter than the previous model and still compatible with traditional manufacturing methods. This weight reduction contributed to an overall decrease of 10.5 pounds in the car’s total mass, making it faster and more efficient. BAC continues to push the limits of automotive engineering, proving that even small changes can have a big impact.

Firefly Aerospace is on track to become one of the leading players in the private space industry. Based near Austin, Texas, the company is working on Alpha, a small launch vehicle designed to deliver payloads to orbit. Their engines produce an astonishing 1 million horsepower—equivalent to 1,000 high-performance sports cars running simultaneously. Using Autodesk Inventor and Vault, Firefly’s engineers are able to design and collaborate at an incredible pace. The company is preparing for its first launch, expected in late 2020, and is building rockets in just nine days using advanced materials and streamlined processes. Firefly is proving that the future of aerospace is both fast and flexible.

In response to the global ventilator shortage caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, The Ventilator Project brought together volunteers from around the world to develop a low-cost, scalable solution. Using feedback from medical professionals, the team rapidly iterated on a device called “AIRA,” which was designed to meet urgent healthcare needs. With the help of Autodesk Fusion 360, remote teams collaborated efficiently to bring the project to life. Now, the team is waiting for FDA approval to begin production. Their work highlights the power of global collaboration in times of crisis and demonstrates how technology can be used to make a real difference in people’s lives.
