Anqing Petrochemical Refinery recently completed a six-month industrial trial of its first domestic oil mist lubrication system for the atmospheric and vacuum unit. In mid-March this year, the system was officially reviewed and evaluated by industry experts. This innovative technology has significantly reduced equipment failure rates, lowered the physical workload for operators, and cut down on lubricant usage, offering a more reliable solution for production stability.
In October last year, the refinery made a strong push to modernize its pump lubrication systems by introducing the oil mist lubrication technology. The system uses purified air from the plant to convert liquid lubricating oil into a fine mist, which is then injected directly into the pump bearing housing. This transition changed the traditional "oil-immersed" manual lubrication method into an automated, "forced" mechanical lubrication process. After successful trials on individual pumps, the system received widespread praise from operators.
Encouraged by these results, the refinery expanded the application of the system across two sets of atmospheric and vacuum units, benefiting all 33 mechanical seal centrifugal pumps in the system. Since implementing the oil mist lubrication, the average temperature inside the pump housings has dropped by 9°C, and lubricant consumption has been reduced by approximately one-third.
Moreover, the system has greatly simplified the maintenance process. Previously, changing the oil required disassembling the plug beneath the oil cup and having another person refill the oil cup above the pump. Now, only one operator is needed to filter the oil into the tank and complete the refueling process efficiently. This not only improves operational efficiency but also enhances workplace safety and reduces overall maintenance costs. The success of this system marks a significant step forward in the refinery’s efforts to adopt advanced, sustainable technologies for long-term equipment reliability and operational excellence.
