ISO grades fire departments on a scale of 1 to 10, where 1 represents the best performance, while 10 means the department falls short of meeting basic requirements. Over the past two decades, the Prospect Heights Fire District has undergone substantial improvements under Chief Gould's leadership. While they narrowly missed out on a Class 2 rating, they managed to climb from a Class 4 rating in 1996 to their current status.

According to Gould, one of the biggest challenges continues to be the water supply system, which makes up 40% of the overall score. In Prospect Heights, nearly half the population depends on private wells for drinking water, leaving little room for firefighting purposes. To address this issue, the district uses tanker trucks, long hose connections to distant hydrants, and mutual aid agreements with neighboring towns.

These efforts reflect dedication toward enhancing public safety, even when faced with geographical limitations. Despite such obstacles, the Prospect Heights Fire District remains committed to delivering top-tier emergency response capabilities.
