Last week, Karl Klotz, Steve Redick, and Larry Shapiro paid a visit to all five stations of the McHenry Township FPD to provide updates on their facilities. Alongside the introduction of new vehicles, this department is among several others in the region currently in the process of renumbering its apparatus.
During their visit, they captured images of several new and updated units, including three ambulances, two fire engines, two tankers, and a new boat.
One significant change is the transition of McHenry Township from a single-tanker department to a three-tanker setup. With tankers now stationed at all but the downtown station, the department recently acquired two identical 3,500-gallon tankers built by US Tanker using 2013 IHC 7500 chassis with extended cabs. Tender 1272 is stationed at Station 2, while Tender 1274 resides at Station 4.
The engine lineup has also seen some changes. Two new Pierce Impel XM engines have been deployed since our last update, replacing older models. Engine 41 now serves Station 1, while Engine 43 operates out of Station 3. Engine 44 at Station 4 used to be Engine 10 at Station 1. Two additional engines are expected to arrive in six-month intervals.
In terms of ambulances, the fleet has undergone significant changes. A brand-new 2013 Type I Osage ambulance was added to Station 4 and operates as Ambulance 54. Another new arrival is a 2012 Type I AEV at Station 1, designated as Ambulance 51. Additionally, Station 2 received a 2010 Osage Type I ambulance, now serving as Ambulance 52.
Lastly, a 2013, 24-foot boat built by Clark Boats with a rigid hull was placed at Station 2 and named Boat 1292.
These updates reflect the ongoing efforts of the McHenry Township FPD to modernize its fleet and improve operational capabilities across its stations.
