The Woodstock Fire Protection District recently wrapped up their series of controlled burns at the model homes they received after the development project fell through. If you’re interested in reading more about their training and previous burn-down exercises, you can find those posts HERE. The latest burn involved a row of five townhouses located off Route 47 (S. Eastwood Drive), just north of Lucas Road. On the morning of December 28th, firefighters meticulously prepared each unit by filling them with straw and wood before igniting them. A modest crowd gathered to watch the spectacle, including Tim Olk and Larry Shapiro, who both captured photographs of the event.
Here are several images taken by Larry Shapiro, along with a detailed video documenting the entire process.

As the flames engulfed the structures, it was clear how intense and dangerous such fires could be. These controlled burns serve as invaluable training exercises for firefighters, helping them prepare for real-life scenarios where quick thinking and precise actions are critical. Watching the progression of the fire over time provided a unique perspective into how these buildings succumbed to the inferno, offering both educational and visual value.
The dedication shown by the firefighters during this exercise highlights their commitment to public safety and their ability to handle challenging situations effectively. It’s not every day that one gets to witness such dramatic demonstrations of fire behavior, making this event particularly memorable for those in attendance.
