McHenry FPD updates

Last week, Karl Klotz, Steve Redick, and Larry Shapiro paid a visit to all five stations of the McHenry Township FPD to provide updates on their recent developments. Alongside introducing new units, this department is among several in the region currently in the process of renumbering their apparatus. Among the newly acquired and updated vehicles documented during their visit, there were three ambulances, two fire engines, two tenders, and a brand-new boat. One significant change for McHenry Township FPD is the transition from having just one tender to now operating a robust three-tender system. This means they now have tenders stationed at all but one of their locations. The two new tenders, each carrying 3,500 gallons of water and equipped with a 500-gallon-per-minute pump, were manufactured by US Tanker using 2013 IHC 7500 chassis with extended cabs. Tender 1272 is located at Station 2, while Tender 1274 is stationed at Station 4. Larry Shapiro captured a great shot of Tender 1272, showcasing its impressive design and capabilities. In terms of engines, McHenry Township FPD has made some notable changes. Two new Pierce Impel XM chassis engines have been brought into service, replacing older models. Engine 41 is now stationed at Station 1, and Engine 43 resides at Station 3. Additionally, Engine 44, previously known as Engine 10, has been relocated to Station 4. Two more engines are on the horizon, expected to arrive every six months. The ambulance fleet has undergone a significant transformation since our last visit. A brand-new 2013 Type I Osage ambulance serves as Ambulance 54 at Station 4. Another recent addition is Ambulance 51, a 2012 Type I AEV based at Station 1. Meanwhile, Ambulance 52, a 2010 Osage Type I, has also joined the fleet at Station 2. Larry Shapiro’s photo of Ambulance 54 beautifully highlights its modern design and functionality. Lastly, Boat 1292, located at Station 2, is a 2013 24-foot rigid-hull boat constructed by Clark Boats. This vessel adds another layer of capability to the district’s emergency response arsenal. Karl Klotz snapped a fantastic image of this boat, emphasizing its sleek yet durable construction. All these updates reflect McHenry Township FPD's commitment to enhancing their operational capacity and ensuring they remain well-prepared to serve their community effectively.
