On August 16, Volkswagen FAW Engine (Dalian) Co., Ltd. officially started production at its new engine plant in Changchun. This was the first of seven new plants announced by Volkswagen Group in China. According to Hezmann, member of the management board of Volkswagen Group and president and CEO of Volkswagen Group (China), the new plant marks that Volkswagen Group and its Chinese partners are taking a new height in the application of advanced powertrains. At the same time, more efficient, energy-saving and environmentally friendly products will be introduced into the Chinese market.
As an important part of the Volkswagen Group's domestic powertrain production base, Volkswagen FAW Engine (Dalian) Co., Ltd. plans to produce 300,000 units of its annual capacity in the first phase of the new plant in Changchun, and plans to produce 450,000 units in the second phase. The second phase of the planning goal will be achieved by mid-2014. The formal production of the new plant will further promote the application of energy-saving and environmental protection technologies of the Volkswagen Group. At the same time, the new plant has a flexible production line of the first multi-type EA888 engine in China. The EA888 third generation engine is the first domestic engine that meets Euro VI emission standards. Compared with the previous two generations of engines, the EA888 third-generation engine has achieved a significant increase in light weight, power, emission standards and fuel economy, and the technology level has taken the lead. The reporter was informed that the displacement of the EA888 third-generation engine is 1.8L and 2.0L, respectively, and the product can match various Volkswagen and Audi brand models under FAW-Volkswagen.
Volkswagen FAW Engine (Dalian) Co., Ltd. is a joint venture between Volkswagen (China) Investment Co., Ltd. and China FAW Group Corporation. The EA888 turbocharged direct injection gasoline engine was put into production in 2007. After the first engine product went offline, the annual production capacity of Volkswagen FAW Engine (Dalian) Co., Ltd. achieved rapid growth. As of July 2012, the company produced a total of 1 million engine products.
