Instrumentation and target flowmeters have developed into an independent and complete discipline. There are four good reasons for this conclusion.

First, the instrumentation and measurement control disciplines have their own unique set of basic theories and technologies, including sensor theory and technology, detection measurement theory and technology, signal processing theory and technology, error analysis theory and technology, and automatic control theory. And technology, etc. In the research and development of these basic theories and technologies, we have a group of outstanding scientists and outstanding middle-aged and young people with scientific and technological innovation. Their research and development achievements have made important contributions to the promotion of discipline development.

Second, when we look at the history of science and technology development, when an emerging discipline forms and continues to develop, the education system, especially higher education, will emerge as a result of new discipline education and training of new academic talents. The Ministry of Education of China has established a first-level subject education system around the disciplines of instrumentation and measurement control for many years. Now it is called the "Instrument Science and Technology" discipline. Nearly 250 colleges and universities nationwide have set up corresponding majors, and more than 30,000 undergraduates. More than 10,000 graduate students are studying at school. Chinese universities have established professional training objectives and specifications for the discipline of "Instrument Science and Technology", and have trained hundreds of thousands of subject technical personnel for the fields of instrumentation and measurement and control.

Thirdly, the discipline of instrumentation and measurement and control is an engineering application subject, and the formation and development of industries that are compatible with it are the material basis and technical support for the development of the discipline. China's instrumentation industry already has a considerable scale, which will be discussed in detail below. Therefore, the instrumentation and measurement control disciplines are not in the ivory tower, but have a strong vitality and development space;

Fourth, the discipline of instrumentation and measurement and control has a nationwide national-level academic group, the China Institute of Instrumentation. The Society has done a great deal of work in promoting the progress of the discipline and achieved remarkable results.
