Before diving into the replacement process, it's crucial to acquire the proper replacement part. Cabin air filters come in various sizes and configurations, so purchasing the wrong one could lead to a poor fit. Additionally, while preparing to swap out the filter, it might be wise to tidy up your glove compartment. Why? Most newer Toyota models store their air filters behind the glove box, and having fewer items inside can significantly speed up the replacement process.

The cabin air filter is usually positioned behind the glove box and installed vertically.

Steps to Change Your Cabin Air Filter

  1. Open the glove box and remove any contents. Look for a screw on the lower right side—if present, unscrew it (not all models have this).
  2. Find the plastic tabs along the edges of the glove box. Depressing these tabs will allow the glove box to open further.
  3. Next, identify a long, rectangular plastic strip with tabs on either side. Squeezing these tabs will release the strip, revealing the air filter.
  4. Take out the old filter and insert the new one in its place.
  5. Reattach the plastic strip and reassemble the glove box following the reverse steps.

Congratulations! You’ve successfully replaced your cabin air filter. Your vehicle will now enjoy improved airflow and cleaner air circulation when using the air conditioning or heating system.
