Phosphate mineral resources associated with the recovery of fluoride production of hydrogen fluoride

Fluosilicic acid, a by-product of phosphate fertilizer production, has historically been underutilized, with limited applications primarily focused on manufacturing a small number of products such as sodium fluorosilicate, cryolite, and aluminum fluoride. However, Guizhou Hongfu Company has made significant progress by introducing foreign technology to produce anhydrous hydrogen fluoride from fluorosilicic acid generated in phosphate plants. The company is now building an industrial-scale facility capable of processing 20,000 tons per year of fluorosilicic acid into anhydrous hydrogen fluoride. Once completed, Hongfu will become the first company globally to recover fluorine resources and process high-grade fluorine chemicals directly from the phosphorus production process. This breakthrough opens new pathways for the efficient utilization of fluorosilicic acid within the phosphate industry. It not only enhances product value but also helps reduce reliance on China’s scarce fluorite reserves by transforming waste into valuable resources. Moreover, this initiative paves the way for the development of new fluorosilicic acid-based products, strengthening the overall chemical industry chain. In addition, Yuntianhua International Chemical Co., Ltd.'s Furui subsidiary is actively researching advanced methods for fluorine-enriched absorption, aiming to develop technologies that can effectively recover anhydrous fluorine from by-products of phosphate mining and production. These efforts are part of a broader strategy to achieve more sustainable and comprehensive use of fluorine resources, supporting long-term industrial growth and environmental protection.
