CBS2 Chicago reported on the tragic passing of Orland firefighter Wesley Peak, who died in a traffic accident on Sunday morning. The incident occurred on Interstate 57 in south suburban Matteson, where Peak, 36, was driving north when he was involved in a single-vehicle crash. According to officials, including Orland Fire Protection District Chief Ken Brucki, Peak was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:43 a.m. He had been a dedicated member of the fire department for seven years and lived in Manteno, residing on the 200 block of Marquette Place.
Brucki expressed deep sorrow over the loss, stating, “Wesley touched so many lives in a positive way; it is equally heartbreaking to the organization as it is on his family.†His death has left a profound impact on both his colleagues and loved ones.
The Chicago Tribune also covered the story, sharing details about the funeral arrangements for the fallen firefighter. A visitation will be held from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday at Colonial Chapel, located at 15525 S. 73rd Ave. in Orland Park. The funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. on Friday at Parkview Christian Church, followed by burial at Peotone Cemetery.
Illinois State Police are still investigating the cause of the crash, which happened around 6:30 a.m. on Sunday near the intersection of I-57 and 190th Street. Peak’s family has asked for donations to the Jaxson Memorial Fund instead of flowers. Survivors include his wife, Melissa, son Jaxson, parents William and Linda, and three brothers. His legacy will live on through those who knew him and the community that mourns his loss.
