August 5, 2015 – Over the past year, Nihon Sekkei, Inc. and Autodesk, Inc. have joined forces to push the boundaries of building information modeling (BIM) in Japan. This partnership aims to enhance BIM adoption by developing a comprehensive system for construction and building management that delivers maximum value across the entire building lifecycle. The companies recently released an update on their progress and outlined plans for the future.

Together, Nihon Sekkei and Autodesk have created an integrated BIM platform tailored to Japan’s unique needs. Built on Autodesk Revit, this unified system enables more efficient collaboration across architectural, construction, and facility design workflows. Key features include:

  • Standardized data sharing across disciplines, improving coordination and reducing errors;
  • Enhanced visualization tools that allow teams to better understand and validate structural performance and specifications;
  • Seamless integration with domestic design software, fluid analysis tools, and accounting systems to improve design accuracy and efficiency;
  • Revised drawing standards that support extended use of BIM data throughout the project lifecycle;
  • Implementation of Autodesk Dynamo to automate design processes and reduce lifecycle costs;
  • Plans to extend standardized BIM information into operations and maintenance, ensuring long-term value.

Looking Ahead

The next phase of the partnership focuses on testing and refining the BIM system across all stages of a building’s life—from initial planning and design to ongoing operation and maintenance. The goal is to deliver a robust, user-friendly solution that empowers facility owners and operators in Japan.

In addition to local development, the two companies are working to establish global workflows. This includes knowledge exchanges with international firms and academic institutions leading the way in BIM innovation. By sharing insights and technologies openly, they aim to drive industry-wide progress and set new benchmarks for digital construction.
