New fire station for Elburn FPD (more)

From excerpts on MySuburbanLife.com: Monday morning marked the opening of the Elburn and Countryside Fire Protection District's brand-new station along Route 38 in Elburn. After 14 months of construction and years of anticipation, the facility located just east of Route 47 on the north side of Route 38 was abuzz with activity. Assistant Fire Chief Tate Haley has been managing the project and shared some of the highlights. The new station dwarfs the former location at 210 E. North St. in Elburn. The fire district serves areas beyond Elburn, including the Mill Creek subdivision, and expects growth as development continues in the Elburn station zone. The funds were entirely sourced internally, with no extra public funding needed. Initial cost estimates ranged between $8 million and $10 million, and Haley mentioned that the final tally was near the higher end of that range. An open house is planned for December 13th, allowing residents to explore the new facilities. Visitors will notice more interactive displays and areas dedicated to public education. Previously, these exhibits were stored in boxes most of the year and only brought out for special events like the annual Christmas Stroll. The station spans three levels. The middle level, serving as the primary space, houses offices, meeting rooms, training areas, and a kitchen. Downstairs, there's a fitness room where firefighters previously had to travel to a separate building that once housed ambulances. This lower level also features an emergency operations center and a large conference room suitable for training sessions. There will be a sort of museum showcasing an old wheel that was displayed at the old station but often went unnoticed by many. On the upper level, there are 15 bunks, a spacious multipurpose room, and a patio. Instead of a traditional fire pole, firefighters can descend from the second-floor living quarters to the apparatus bay via a slide. Additionally, there's a training tower that doubles as a place to dry hoses and conduct rescue and confined-space training exercises. This new station not only reflects the growing needs of the community but also provides firefighters with modern amenities and tools to enhance their readiness and safety. It's clear that the efforts of the Elburn and Countryside Fire Protection District have paid off, creating a state-of-the-art facility that promises to serve the area well into the future.
