Yesterday afternoon, I witnessed an interesting incident while driving through Maywood. As I passed by the 500 block of N 7th Ave, I noticed a significant commotion. The fire department had been called to address a fire that had broken out in a detached garage in the area. It was quite a sight to see how swiftly the Maywood fire department, along with some additional support from neighboring areas, managed to contain and eventually extinguish the flames.
I happened to be there at just the right moment and decided to take some pictures of the scene. The firefighters were incredibly efficient, and it didn't take long for them to get the situation under control. I managed to capture several images that really captured the intensity of the event and the efforts of those involved.
One of the first images I took shows light smoke still rising from the damaged garage as firefighters worked to douse the remaining embers inside. You can see the determination in their faces as they focused on putting out the last traces of fire. Another shot highlights Maywood Engine 507 positioned at the intersection of Superior and 5th. The engine looked ready and prepared for action, with its hoses already deployed.
In another picture, you can see River Forest Truck 631 arriving as part of the auto-aid response. Their presence added to the overall coordination required to handle such emergencies. There’s also a great shot of Maywood Engine 506 parked along Superior. It’s clear that these vehicles were well-prepared and strategically placed to assist in the firefighting efforts.
Finally, one of my favorite photos captures Maywood Engine 507 sitting proudly on its Spartan Gladiator chassis. This image gives a sense of the robustness and professionalism of the equipment used by the Maywood Fire Department. All in all, it was an impressive display of teamwork and quick thinking under pressure. I’m glad I could document this event and share it with others who might appreciate the dedication of our local firefighters.
