4. Principle of Cement Making Machinery and Cement Production Line, Kiln The kiln is a cylindrical vessel slightly inclined to the horizontal, rotating slowly around its axis. Raw material is fed into the upper end of the cylinder. As the kiln rotates, the material gradually moves down towards the lower end, undergoing some stirring and mixing. Hot gases pass along the kiln, often in the opposite direction to the material flow (counter-current). These gases may be generated in an external furnace or by a flame inside the kiln. A flame is projected from a burner-pipe, acting like a large burner. Fuel can be gas, oil, or pulverized coal.
