Chicago FD house fire 5-7-13

**From Dan Shevlin:** The incident involved the Stiil & Box Alarm 5814 at Roscoe Street. It happened around 2:41 PM. Engine 94 was the first to respond and noticed the fire was spreading westward. They deployed two water lines immediately. Truck 53 was assigned Sector 1. Engine 7 (the second engine) secured a hydrant at the northwest corner of Newport and Menard streets, then extended their hose through the alley toward the back of the property. Engine 68 came in from the east side of Roscoe, also deploying a line to assist. Multiple callers reported seeing the gazebo in the backyard fully engulfed in flames. Unfortunately, the fire spread rapidly from there, moving into the attic of the Chicago-style bungalow and affecting the neighboring building to the west. By the time I arrived, the fire was already under control. PTFE Compensator

PTFE compensators are an essential component in piping systems that are designed to handle high temperatures, pressure fluctuations, and corrosive media. These compensators are made from PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene), which is a highly durable and chemically resistant material that can withstand extreme temperatures ranging from -200°C to +260°C.
PTFE compensators are designed to absorb thermal expansion and contraction in piping systems, which can cause stress and damage to the pipes if left unchecked. When the temperature of the piping system changes, the PTFE compensator expands or contracts to compensate for the thermal expansion or contraction, thereby reducing the stress on the pipes and preventing damage.
PTFE compensators are also used to absorb vibration and noise in piping systems, which can be caused by the flow of fluids or gases. The PTFE material used in these compensators has excellent damping properties, which help to reduce the vibration and noise levels in the piping system.
