SAN RAFAEL, Calif., July 22, 2020 — Autodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADSK) has announced its intent to acquire Pype, a leading provider of cloud-based tools designed to automate construction workflows. This strategic move aims to enhance the capabilities of Autodesk Construction Cloud, offering general contractors, subcontractors, and project owners even more value through automation of critical processes like submittals and closeouts. The goal is to improve productivity, reduce risk, and streamline project execution across the construction lifecycle.

Pype’s platform is built around reducing manual tasks and minimizing human error, which often lead to costly rework, delays, and inefficiencies. By leveraging AI and machine learning, Pype can automatically extract and analyze essential data from project plans and specifications, turning it into actionable insights. This not only improves collaboration among teams but also ensures that projects stay on time and within budget. Notable clients include major construction firms such as Barton Malow, JE Dunn, McCarthy, Mortenson, and Skanska.

This acquisition marks another step in Autodesk’s ongoing strategy to invest in and integrate cutting-edge construction technologies. Since 2017, the company has made several key acquisitions, including Assemble, BuildingConnected, and PlanGrid, each contributing significantly to its construction technology portfolio.

“We are excited about the future of the construction industry,” said Andrew Anagnost, CEO of Autodesk. “Even during challenging times, our focus remains on making the work of builders easier. Pype’s AI-driven solutions will help customers connect and optimize their workflows across the entire building lifecycle.”

“Since 2015, Pype has grown rapidly by delivering innovative automation tools for construction,” said Sunil Dorairajan, CEO and co-founder of Pype. “Now, with Autodesk’s support, we’re ready to scale these solutions and help teams manage projects more efficiently—from design to closeout.”

“JE Dunn has always been at the forefront of digital transformation in construction,” said John Jacobs, CIO of JE Dunn. “Working with both Autodesk and Pype has been a key part of our journey. Combining their technologies will further drive innovation and efficiency in our operations.”

Pype Will Integrate With Autodesk Construction Cloud for Smarter Project Management

Autodesk Construction Cloud brings together multiple platforms—Assemble, BIM 360, BuildingConnected, and PlanGrid—offering a comprehensive suite of tools for construction management. It supports collaboration between headquarters, offices, and field teams, using advanced technology and predictive analytics to improve productivity and decision-making.

With the acquisition, Autodesk plans to fully integrate Pype’s tools into its ecosystem. Pype’s product lineup includes:

  • AutoSpecs: Quickly generate submittal logs with minimal effort.
  • Closeout: Streamline the closing process with an intuitive dashboard and automated document collection.
  • eBinder: Automatically convert hundreds of documents into a searchable, indexed file for easy handover.
  • SmartPlans: Extract key data such as submittals, product schedules, and compliance requirements directly from drawings.

“Manual processes are still common in construction, causing delays and increasing risk,” said Jim Lynch, VP and GM of Autodesk Construction Solutions. “Pype’s tools make data more actionable and collaborative, helping teams deliver projects on time and within budget.”

“AI-powered automation is a game-changer,” said Karuna Ammireddy, CTO and co-founder of Pype. “By integrating with Autodesk Construction Cloud, we’ll help construction professionals manage every stage of a project with greater precision and confidence.”

Transaction Details: The deal is expected to close during Autodesk’s third quarter of fiscal 2021, ending October 31, 2020. It will not impact the company’s financial guidance for the second quarter or full fiscal year 2021.
