Autodesk to Acquire AI-Powered Construction Software Provider Pype

**Autodesk Expands Its Construction Technology Portfolio with Acquisition of Pype**

Pype’s advanced submittals and project closeout software will enhance Autodesk Construction Cloud, helping general contractors, specialty contractors, and owners reduce risk and boost efficiency

SAN RAFAEL, Calif., July 22, 2020 — Autodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADSK) announced today its agreement to acquire Pype, a leading provider of cloud-based solutions that automate construction workflows. This acquisition is set to enhance the capabilities of Autodesk Construction Cloud, empowering general contractors, subcontractors, and building owners to improve productivity, reduce risk, and streamline operations through automation.

Pype’s innovative platform reduces manual tasks and human errors that often lead to rework, budget overruns, and delays. By leveraging AI and machine learning, Pype extracts and analyzes critical construction data from plans and specifications, transforming it into actionable insights throughout the project lifecycle. This not only improves collaboration but also helps teams make smarter decisions in real time. Notable clients include top-tier contractors like Barton Malow, JE Dunn, McCarthy, Mortenson, and Skanska.

Since 2017, Autodesk has made strategic investments in nine construction tech startups. The company has also acquired Assemble, BuildingConnected, and PlanGrid—collectively investing over $1.1 billion in construction innovation.

“The future of the building industry is bright,” said Andrew Anagnost, CEO of Autodesk. “Even in tough times, we remain committed to making the work of builders easier. Pype’s AI capabilities will help our customers connect workflows across the entire building lifecycle, driving long-term resilience and efficiency.”

“We are thrilled to join Autodesk and continue our mission to automate construction workflows,” said Sunil Dorairajan, CEO and co-founder of Pype. “With this partnership, we can scale our solutions and help construction teams deliver projects faster, more efficiently, and with fewer risks.”

John Jacobs, CIO of JE Dunn, added, “JE Dunn has always been at the forefront of digital transformation in construction. Working with Autodesk and Pype has allowed us to develop powerful automated processes. Now, combining these technologies will accelerate the evolution of our industry.”

Integration of Pype with Autodesk Construction Cloud Streamlines Project Management

Autodesk Construction Cloud brings together Assemble, BIM 360, BuildingConnected, and PlanGrid, offering a comprehensive suite of tools for construction management. With its robust design authoring tools, the platform connects teams across offices and job sites, enhancing collaboration and productivity.

Following the acquisition, Pype’s products will be integrated into Autodesk Construction Cloud. These include:

  • AutoSpecs: Quickly generate submittal logs
  • Closeout: Speed up the closeout process with an intuitive dashboard and automated document collection
  • eBinder: Convert hundreds of documents into a searchable, indexed turnover file
  • SmartPlans: Extract key data from drawings, such as submittals and product schedules

“Manual workflows still plague many construction projects, causing inefficiencies and increased risk,” said Jim Lynch, VP and GM of Autodesk Construction Solutions. “Pype’s technology turns data into action, helping teams deliver projects on time and within budget.”

Karuna Ammireddy, CTO and co-founder of Pype, added, “AI-driven automation significantly reduces the risk of human error. Together, our solutions will empower the industry to build smarter and safer.”

Transaction Details: The deal is expected to close during Autodesk’s third quarter of fiscal 2021, ending October 31, 2020. It will not impact Autodesk’s second-quarter or full-year 2021 guidance.
