Autodesk appoints Joe Speicher as its first chief sustainability officer

SAN FRANCISCO, November 28, 2023 /PRNewswire/ – Autodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADSK), a global leader in design and manufacturing software, recently announced the appointment of Joe Speicher as its very first Chief Sustainability Officer. This new position became effective back in July, marking a significant milestone for the company as it deepens its commitment to sustainability and innovation. Speicher, who has been part of Autodesk since 2018, has previously held several leadership roles within the company's sustainability and foundation divisions. In his new capacity, he will report directly to Autodesk's CFO, Debbie Clifford. This appointment underscores the growing significance of the Chief Sustainability Officer role in fostering sustainable practices and fueling business growth. [Image: Joe Speicher] Autodesk envisions a future where design and creation are inclusive and environmentally responsible. The company’s impact strategy revolves around three key areas: managing its own environmental, social, and governance (ESG) risks and opportunities; empowering its customers to achieve superior sustainable outcomes; and investing in groundbreaking technologies to enhance the industries it serves. “Appointing Joe as our first Chief Sustainability Officer amplifies our dedication to executing our broader impact strategy and instigating meaningful transformations in the sectors we cater to,” remarked Debbie Clifford. “Integrating sustainability into our financial operations allows us to seamlessly incorporate these efforts into our core business functions and allocate resources towards innovations addressing some of the world’s most urgent challenges.” In his new role, Speicher will oversee the formulation and execution of Autodesk’s sustainability and impact strategy, including setting measurable goals and publishing comprehensive reports. Additionally, he will spearhead cross-industry initiatives aimed at equipping customers with advanced tools for sustainable design and production. Speicher will continue to guide the Autodesk Foundation, a charitable entity focused on funding inventive solutions to critical social and environmental problems. He will also chair the company’s ESG Steering Committee, ensuring that Autodesk consistently evaluates and addresses pertinent ESG issues aligned with its external objectives. Autodesk’s customers span diverse fields such as construction, product manufacturing, and entertainment. They are increasingly expected to deliver projects faster, cheaper, and more sustainably without compromising on quality. However, many enterprises still rely on outdated methods and tools, making it difficult for them to keep pace with the rapidly evolving digital landscape powered by AI. Through interconnected workflows that unify data, insights, and automation, Autodesk’s Design and Make Platforms aim to minimize errors and waste, thereby reducing emissions and promoting eco-friendly practices. “We’re positioned at the intersection of some of the most creative and impactful industries globally,” stated Speicher. “Over the past few years, there’s been a noticeable shift in market trends favoring sustainable results—and Autodesk is at the forefront of this movement. We’re building a platform to democratize access to sophisticated technologies and data for industries that have a substantial carbon footprint because we believe this presents one of our greatest chances to combat the impacts of climate change.” To learn more about Autodesk’s sustainability endeavors, visit [autodesk.com/sustainability/impact-report].
