On Thursday, February 9, around 8:30 a.m., the Evanston Fire Department received multiple calls about a fire at a multi-family building on Judson Avenue in the 900 block.

First responders arrived to find heavy flames on the third floor of the three-story courtyard-style building and quickly requested additional help to manage the situation. Due to the intense fire conditions and the risk of rapid spread, the alarm was upgraded to a third alarm within just 12 minutes. Nearby fire departments were called in for assistance with extinguishing the fire and conducting an investigation, as well as handling other emergency calls in the area. The fire was brought under control within the first hour of the incident.

All residents were able to safely evacuate before the fire department arrived, and no injuries to civilians have been reported so far. During the search and rescue operation, two cats were found deceased inside the unit. The American Red Cross has stepped in to support 13 displaced residents by providing shelter and basic care. Fortunately, no firefighters were injured during the operation.

The 900 block of Judson Ave. will remain closed until the fire department completes its investigation. Residents are advised to stay informed through local news and official channels.
