Honeywell’s Chairman and CEO, Goodwin, recently signed an environmental agreement with the China Environmental Protection Federation and China Daily News, expressing hope that the company’s green diesel engine technology could help the Chinese auto industry tackle pollution and energy efficiency challenges. As a global leader in manufacturing, Honeywell aims to provide eco-friendly products and solutions to support clean energy adoption in China.
Gao Dewei highlighted that diesel engines have played a key role in Europe’s automotive market due to their fuel efficiency and lower emissions. In the EU, over 50% of new passenger cars are diesel-powered, with countries like France, Italy, and Germany having significant market shares at 72%, 66%, and 43%, respectively. The U.S. also offers incentives, such as tax rebates up to $3,400 for diesel car buyers, giving them the same benefits as hybrid vehicles to encourage cleaner transportation options.
Currently, diesel vehicles make up 23.7% of total car ownership in China, but only 0.2% of new car inventory. This gap presents a major opportunity for companies like Honeywell, which generated $510 million in sales in China last year—though it still sees immense potential compared to its global revenue of $28 billion. With China’s growing focus on energy conservation and environmental protection, Honeywell is eager to leverage its "green diesel engine" technology to expand its presence in the Chinese manufacturing sector and drive sustainable development.
