On Monday, May 16th, 2017, there was an incident involving an Interdivisional Box and a Haz Mat Box at Star Disposal Service located on 20 South Street in Park Forest. The event was captured in a series of photographs taken by Tim Olk. As I scrolled through the images, I couldn't help but feel a sense of urgency and purpose in the scenes before me.
The first image shows a HME fire truck positioned at the scene, its presence a clear indicator that this was no ordinary day for the firefighters. The next photo features the impressive Matteson FD tower ladder, towering over the landscape, ready to tackle any challenge that came its way. In another shot, we see Park Forest FD Engine 56, its readiness evident as it prepares to respond to the unfolding situation.
One of the most striking photos captures an end loader in action, clearing debris after what appears to have been a significant fire. It's a testament to the aftermath and the hard work required to restore order. Following this, there’s another image of Park Forest FD Engine 56 on site, showcasing the teamwork and coordination necessary in such scenarios.
In several other shots, firefighters can be seen working diligently with hose lines, mopping up residual flames and ensuring all potential hazards are addressed. One particularly poignant photo highlights a front-end loader that had unfortunately been destroyed by the fire, serving as a reminder of the destructive power these events can unleash.
Another compelling photograph shows a firefighter skillfully using a hose to hit hot spots, his focus unwavering despite the chaos around him. There’s also an image of another front-end loader at a salvage yard fire, illustrating the variety of challenges faced during such incidents.
As I examined these photos, I found myself reflecting on the dedication and courage of those who put their lives on the line to protect others. Each image told a story of resilience, teamwork, and the relentless pursuit of safety. The day may have ended with some destruction, but it began and ended with hope, knowing that there were professionals like those in Park Forest FD and Matteson FD who were always ready to answer the call.
