Flyability wins Airwards’ Survey and Inspection award

May 26, 2021 – Flyability has been honored by Airwards as the winner in the Survey and Inspection category for its innovative solution: Confined Space Inspection Drones.

Over the past year, Flyability has made headlines with the real-world impact of its Elios drones. From exploring the icy depths of Greenland’s ice caves to inspecting the abandoned nuclear reactor at Chernobyl, and even surveying a dam under construction high in the Swiss Alps, these drones have proven their worth in some of the most extreme environments on Earth.

Beyond these remarkable missions, the Elios 2 has become an essential tool across various industries. It has helped companies cut down on inspection costs by millions and significantly reduced downtime, all while eliminating thousands of hours of dangerous manual work for human inspectors.

This groundbreaking work has now been officially recognized by Airwards, which recently announced Flyability as the winner in the Survey and Inspection category.

"We're incredibly proud that our mission to replace human entry into hazardous indoor spaces with drones has been acknowledged by Airwards," said Patrick Thévoz, co-founder and CEO of Flyability. "Since we started in 2014, our goal has always been to make inspections safer and more efficient. This award is a big milestone for our team and confirms that we’re heading in the right direction."

The Elios 2 not only improves safety but also speeds up and lowers the cost of inspections. These advantages were key reasons behind Airwards’ decision to honor Flyability this year.

Here's what the Airwards judges had to say about the win:

“A market-leading solution with a global impact, enabling safe inspections in hard-to-reach areas while keeping people out of danger. The Elios 2 is not just a great piece of technology—it’s a well-designed product that delivers significant safety benefits. It’s built with worker safety in mind, eliminating the need for manual inspections. By removing people from working at height and in hazardous spaces, it helps facilities operate more efficiently and sustainably. This isn’t about replacing jobs; it’s about making them safer and smarter.”

Airwards is the first global platform dedicated to recognizing and promoting real-world drone applications. Other winners this year include American Robotics, Volansi, and White Fox Defense Technologies.

"Industries like Oil & Gas, Wastewater Management, and Food and Beverage are starting to realize the huge potential of indoor drones for improving safety and reducing costs," said Alexandre Meldem, VP of Sales at Flyability. "This achievement is the result of years of hard work, and we’re constantly pushing the boundaries of what’s possible with indoor drone technology."
