"Project Ignite has truly transformed our classroom experience, and I am thrilled with how it enhances my students' enthusiasm, engagement, and overall interest in design and 3D printing technology," shared an excited educator.
SAN FRANCISCO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–In response to the President's call to action to foster a Nation of Makers, and as part of the White House event marking the start of the National Week of Making, Autodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ:ADSK), is launching Project Ignite. This free* and open learning platform is designed to build the skills and confidence of young learners through creative, hands-on design activities centered around cutting-edge technologies like 3D printing and electronics.
Targeting K-12 schools, Project Ignite covers the entire design process, from concept to digital modeling to physical creation. It combines free* and customizable design software, step-by-step projects, and purchasable hardware options. Autodesk's Project Ignite, Tinkercad, and 123D Circuits websites are all COPPA safe-harbor certified by CARU Kid’s Privacy Safe Harbor Program.
With a long-standing presence in education, Autodesk understands firsthand how providing the right tools and inspiration empowers young learners to make a difference. Project Ignite complements Autodesk’s extensive suite of free* educational offerings by delivering a tailored package of technology, learning resources, and services aimed at bringing the Maker Movement directly into classrooms.
"The capacity to take risks, learn from failures, and solve problems is essential in preparing students for future challenges," stated Samir Hanna, vice president and general manager of Autodesk’s Consumer and 3D Printing division. "Learning through making, designing, and being creative gives students the freedom to explore diverse ways of engaging with content and each other. Project Ignite fosters a collaborative and hands-on atmosphere that energizes educators, boosts student engagement, and inspires design thinking in a straightforward and enjoyable manner."
With backing from companies like Microsoft, MakerBot, and Electroninks Writeables, Project Ignite also offers classroom bundles. These bundles include hardware such as 3D printers and electronic kits alongside professional development and training services, helping educators implement the program smoothly.
"Project Ignite has been a fantastic addition to our classroom and I adore how it stimulates my students' excitement, involvement, and overall interest in design and 3D printing technology," expressed Kim Coyle, an educator at the Middle School of Plainville in Plainville, CT. "Our mission is to inspire and prepare the next generation of innovators, so we're expanding Project Ignite into other grades and considering creating a makerspace next year to nurture students' curiosity and creativity."
Autodesk aims to deliver innovative technology on common platforms to provide users with a superior experience. Just as Spark, Autodesk's open 3D printing platform, accelerates advancements in 3D printing, Project Ignite extends this concept to education by empowering the next generation of innovators. It will be available in English for educators and students both domestically and internationally.
For educators, Project Ignite integrates free* Autodesk design software such as Tinkercad and 123D Circuits, offering step-by-step tutorials within these apps to promote design thinking and hands-on problem-solving skills. It also provides purchasable hardware options, including 3D printers from MakerBot and Circuit Scribe pens and modules from Electroninks Writeables. Educators can log in for free* to access Project Ignite content, regardless of whether they decide to purchase hardware.
School administrators can select from various package solutions comprising free* software and purchasable hardware options, along with educator training and support, all accessible from one location to integrate the Maker Movement into the classroom.
Educational partners can collaborate with Project Ignite, welcoming educators, publishers, edtech firms, and hardware providers eager to contribute to the next education revolution. This initiative aims to inspire students to deepen their STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) education while giving educators rapid access to emerging tech trends.
For families or parents, Project Ignite offers a great way to learn tech fundamentals together in a moderated environment, extending to fun weekend projects.
