Uniform Lubricants is set to introduce the "Establisher" line of high-alkalinity marine oils in March. Designed specifically for the unique requirements of Chinese vessels, this product series offers superior alkalinity retention compared to conventional marine lubricants currently available. It enhances both anti-corrosion and anti-wear performance, making it an ideal choice for the rapidly growing domestic shipbuilding industry.
The newly launched "Establisher" marine oil is formulated using imported high-viscosity neutral base oil and U.S.-sourced marine oil additive packages, blended through an advanced process. Performance tests have shown that the product exhibits excellent demulsification and water separation properties, along with strong cleaning and dispersing capabilities, oxidation stability, and alkali retention. This ensures protection for critical engine components, effectively dispersing sludge, preventing carbon buildup, and reducing heavy oil contamination. Additionally, it helps prevent high-temperature deposits, extending the service life of the engine.
Marine diesel engines can reach piston ring temperatures of up to 250°C, where oil oxidation products and incomplete combustion byproducts from fuel, along with acid-neutralizing residues, tend to accumulate on the piston and ring grooves. In severe cases, this can lead to stuck or broken piston rings, causing air leaks and cylinder damage. That’s why marine oils must maintain exceptional cleanliness.
The "Establisher" marine oil excels in cleaning deposits from piston ring grooves, inner piston cavities, and cylinders, thanks to its outstanding dispersibility. Once cleaned, the deposits do not redeposit elsewhere, preventing blockages in oil circuits and damage to bearings. This ensures smooth and reliable engine operation over extended periods.
Experts note that marine diesel fuels often contain high levels of sulfur. During combustion, large amounts of sulfur dioxide are produced, which react with water vapor and air under high-temperature conditions to form acidic substances. These acids neutralize the alkalinity of the lubricating oil, and when the alkalinity drops below a critical level, the oil loses its protective properties.
As a result, marine oils—especially medium-speed and system oils—are frequently exposed to water, requiring excellent demulsification and water-distribution properties, as well as strong corrosion resistance. The "Establisher" marine oil, developed in the U.S. with a high-alkalinity formula, is designed to neutralize the acidic byproducts of high-sulfur fuel combustion. This reduces cylinder and piston corrosion and wear, delivering excellent rust and corrosion protection.
According to Uniform technicians, the base value of this product is more than double that of standard internal combustion engine oils. This significantly delays oil degradation, meaning vessels don’t need to replace their engine oil as frequently due to declining alkalinity. Ultimately, this extends the lifespan of the lubricant and ensures smoother, more efficient vessel operations.
