On February 3, 2008, the General Office of the People's Government of Shandong Province issued Document No. 5, Lu Zheng Ban [2008]. This document approved the establishment of Taishan Scholar positions for the "large-scale energy-saving drying technology and equipment" research project conducted by the Industrial Energy Research Center of the Shandong Academy of Sciences.
The Taishan Scholar Program is a key initiative in Shandong Province aimed at cultivating, attracting, and retaining top-level innovative talents. It serves as a critical measure to implement the strategies of "developing the province through science and education" and "building a strong province with talent." The program was first introduced in universities and colleges in late 2003. In 2004, the Provincial Talent Work Conference decided to expand the program to various sectors of economic and social development. With the approval of the provincial party committee and government, 50 Taishan Scholar positions were established in 2007. These positions were selected through a rigorous process organized by the Provincial Party Committee Organization Department.
The main objective of the Taishan Scholar position for "large-scale energy-saving drying technologies and equipment" is to establish a world-class research platform for energy-saving drying technology, a center for talent development, a platform for converting scientific achievements into practical applications, and a public service agency for energy-saving drying technology. This initiative aims to become a core support system for energy-saving drying research, both in Shandong Province and across the country, significantly contributing to energy conservation and emissions reduction.
The Industrial Energy Research Center of the Shandong Academy of Sciences holds a leading position in the academic and industrial fields of the drying industry, driving technological advancements and industrialization in China. Its demonstration company, Shandong Tianli Drying Equipment Co., Ltd., is a key member of the China Drying Society and Drying Association. For many years, the center has conducted extensive research led by experts both domestically and internationally. After two decades of development, it has achieved 35 research outcomes, 68 patents, and received two second prizes for scientific and technological progress at the provincial level. In 2007, the project titled “Large-Scale Built-in Heat Exchanger Flow Pattern in Chemical Industry Drying Facilities and Systems†won the first prize for scientific and technological progress in Shandong Province.
The establishment of these Taishan Scholar positions is expected to attract renowned domestic and international experts, who will make significant contributions to energy conservation efforts not only in Shandong but also nationwide.
