One car MVA in Wheeling, 9-23-16

Wheeling police and fire crews were called to 92 George Road just before noon on September 23, 2016, after a one-car accident with a trapped driver. Upon arrival, they found a small SUV wedged sideways on the support cables of a utility pole in front of a home. The driver was conscious but unable to exit the vehicle on their own.

Firefighters quickly arrived on the scene and worked to stabilize the car. They carefully extracted the driver, who was then taken by ambulance to the hospital for further evaluation. It’s always a tense moment when someone is stuck in such an unusual position, and the crew did an excellent job under pressure.

A ComEd team was also sent to assess the damage to the utility pole. After securing it with a truck-mounted boom, the two steel cables were cut, allowing the car to be safely lowered to the ground for removal. This process required precision to avoid any additional hazards or complications.

Throughout the operation, I captured several images that show the dramatic situation and the careful work being done by first responders. From the initial crash to the final removal, it was a real-life example of teamwork and quick thinking under challenging conditions.
