Xinhuanet Berlin on March 16 (Reporter Liu Haiyan) According to the German "Business Daily" report, the European Commission plans to propose a motion in April this year, suggesting that the auto parts design protection rights that favor automobile manufacturers should be abolished.
A spokesperson said that in some EU member states, the protection of patents by design protects the monopoly position of automakers, resulting in expensive auto parts. Therefore, the EU hopes to cancel the design protection and reduce the price of accessories.
The products covered by the motion include fenders, bumpers, engine covers, headlights, rearview mirrors, and windshields. It is understood that the annual sales of auto parts protected by design patents in only one country in Germany amounted to 25 billion euros, accounting for a quarter of the entire auto parts market.
At present, the relevant legislation of EU countries is not uniform. In Germany and France, auto manufacturers enjoy a monopoly of accessories, and accident vehicle replacement parts must use original or licensed products from auto manufacturers. In Spain, Italy, the United Kingdom, etc., car manufacturers do not have such priority, and auto repair factories can use quality and cheap accessories.
