Chicago Still & Box Alarm fire, 11-01-14
This is from Eric Haak: On Saturday afternoon, just before 4:30 PM on November 1st, a fire broke out on the 1100 block of West 31st Street in Chicago’s Bridgeport neighborhood. The 15th Battalion reported that smoke was coming from the roof of a laundromat. Witnesses at the scene mentioned that roofers had been working on the building just before the fire started. Initially, firefighters launched an aggressive interior attack, but they had to pull back once the roof supports became unstable and posed a safety risk. Here are some photos from the scene. Engines 28 and 39 were the first units on the scene and were positioned in front of the building. Engines 8 and 29 arrived on the box, while Trucks 8 and 4 were still on the scene. Tower Ladder 5 was also on the box, and Truck 33 served as the Rapid Intervention Team (RIT). These images show the response efforts and the crews working to contain the fire.
