SAN FRANCISCO, November 28, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — Autodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADSK) has recently announced the appointment of Joe Speicher as its very first Chief Sustainability Officer, a position that officially commenced in July. Over the course of his career at Autodesk, Speicher has held several pivotal leadership positions across the sustainability and Foundation departments. In his new capacity, he reports directly to the company's Chief Financial Officer. This appointment underscores the growing significance of the Chief Sustainability Officer role in not only achieving sustainability goals but also fostering growth.

Autodesk envisions a better world designed and crafted for everyone. Its impact strategy centers on managing its own environmental, social, and governance (ESG) opportunities and risks, aiding its clients in attaining superior sustainable outcomes, and channeling investments into innovations that will enhance the industries Autodesk serves.
“The appointment of Joe as Autodesk’s inaugural Chief Sustainability Officer bolsters our dedication to and progress towards fulfilling our broader impact strategy, driving meaningful transformation within the industries we serve,†stated Debbie Clifford, Chief Financial Officer. “Integrating sustainability within the finance organization allows us to incorporate this work into core business functions and allocate resources to innovations addressing the world’s most urgent challenges.â€
As Chief Sustainability Officer, Speicher is responsible for developing and executing Autodesk’s sustainability and impact strategy, establishing metrics and reporting systems, and spearheading cross-industry initiatives aimed at enhancing sustainability capabilities for customers. He continues to oversee the Autodesk Foundation, a philanthropic entity committed to funding innovative solutions to the world’s gravest social and environmental challenges. Additionally, he chairs Autodesk’s ESG Steering Committee, ensuring that the company evaluates and addresses issues pertinent to its external ESG objectives, including materiality assessments, measurements, management, and disclosures.
Autodesk’s customers, whether in housing and infrastructure, product and component manufacturing, or gaming and filmmaking, are tasked with accomplishing tasks faster, more sustainably, at lower costs, and with higher quality. However, many firms are still utilizing outdated tools and processes, making it challenging to keep pace in a rapidly digitizing and automated world driven by artificial intelligence (AI). By integrating data, insights, and automation through interconnected workflows, Autodesk’s Design and Make Platforms minimize rework and waste generation, delivering more sustainable results and reduced emissions.
“Autodesk stands at the intersection of some of the most creative and impactful industries globally. We’ve witnessed a significant shift in market dynamics favoring sustainable outcomes over the past few years—and Autodesk is leading the charge,†commented Speicher. “We’re building a platform to democratize access to complex technologies and data for industries that are carbon-intensive—because we believe this is our best chance to tackle the ramifications of climate change.â€
