Zhejiang University developed non-invasive heart monitor to ensure the health of Shenzhou astronaut

[China Instrument Network Instrument R&D] On October 17, the Shenzhou XI spacecraft was successfully launched. Previously, the “non-invasive heart rate monitor” developed by Zhejiang University had been waiting in space on September 15th, 2016 with the launch of the Tiangong 2 launcher. The monitoring instrument will carry out the heart rate, The real-time monitoring and analysis of blood pressure, oxygen saturation, and other physiological parameters play an important role in ensuring the health of astronauts and the astronauts' long-term space survival activities.

Since 2006, the College of Biomedical Engineering and Instrument Science of Zhejiang University has cooperated with the China Astronaut Training Center to develop the "non-invasive heart function monitor". After five years of development, it has met the requirements of the rendezvous and docking mission for the astronauts' new medical supervision and medical insurance equipment. More demanding. Since 2011, the non-invasive function monitor has begun to participate in space missions. First, it has successfully entered space with the Tiangong-1 target aircraft; in 2012, Shenzhou Nine launched and successfully implemented China’s first manned flight with Tiangong-1. Rendezvous and docking tasks. Liu Yang and other three astronauts successfully used the “non-invasive heart rate monitor” in Tiangong 1 for the first time to perform non-invasive continuous monitoring of blood pressure and cardiovascular parameters, and the data was successfully transmitted back to the ground with good results. In 2013, it was again “God 10”. The three astronauts performed physiological monitoring and the instrument worked in a stable condition. After the successful implementation of the manned rendezvous and docking mission for Shenzhou 11 and Tiangong 2 this time, the astronauts will be monitored on-orbit physiological conditions and will continue to be escorted by Shenzhou XI.

In the past ten years, the cooperation between Zhejiang University’s School of Biomedical Engineering and Instrument Science and the China Astronaut Training Center has been comprehensive, including the research of aerospace medical information technology, aerospace medical imaging technology, space environment electrophysiological testing instruments, and cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases in space environment. Basic physiology research, etc., at the same time also carried out the joint training of talents. After the “non-invasive heart rate monitor” was applied to Tiangong 1, the research team continued to develop the cardiovascular and cerebrovascular monitoring instruments. In 2015, the three new products had completed the first round of prototype acceptance. At the same time, in order to deepen cooperation and promote development, the "China Astronaut Research and Training Center - Joint Laboratory of Aerospace Medical Engineering of Zhejiang University" will be prepared for establishment. With this platform, the College of Biomedical Engineering and Instrument Science of Zhejiang University will further develop the cross-disciplinary advantages and strong scientific research strengths in the discipline and make contributions to the country becoming a space power.
