On Saturday, August 29, 2020, firefighters from Buffalo Grove swiftly responded to a fire that broke out on a third-floor balcony at 1541 Johnson Drive. The blaze was discovered on the far edge of the balcony, away from the main structure of the building. Due to the potential for smoke spread and the need for thorough searches, the alarm was upgraded to Code 4, calling in additional resources to manage the situation effectively.
The incident involved multiple fire departments and emergency services, including Buffalo Grove’s Quint 25, Engine 26, Engine 27, Ambulance 26, and Battalion 4, along with chief officers. Additional support came from Long Grove Squad 55, Prospect Heights Engine 39, Wheeling Truck 24, Northbrook Tower 12, Deerfield-Bannockburn Engine 20, Arlington Heights Engine 4, Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Battalion 51 and Squad 51, as well as ambulances from Barrington and Hoffman Estates.
Firefighters worked quickly to contain the flames and ensure the safety of all residents. The twelve-unit, three-story building was thoroughly checked for any remaining hazards or trapped individuals. Although the fire was localized to the balcony, the response demonstrated the coordinated effort between agencies to handle emergencies efficiently.
A large ladder truck was deployed to assist with access and water delivery, helping to bring the fire under control. Residents were evacuated as a precaution, and no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by local authorities.
