Japan proposes to propose new fuel economy standards

According to Reuters news, Nikkei News reported that due to the Japanese government's proposed new fuel economy standards. By 2020, Japanese automakers will need to increase their fuel economy by 24.1%.

The new fuel economy standard will be based on 2009. From 2009 to 2020, the fuel efficiency of gasoline engines will increase from 16.3 kilometers per liter (6.1 liters per hundred kilometers) to 20.3 kilometers per litre (4.9 liters per 100 kilometers). This standard does not apply to electric cars and hybrid cars, but Toyota's Prius will have to meet this standard because it produces a lot of hybrid cars, and reaching this standard should not be a problem.

The new fuel economy standard proposal will finalize the draft after listening to public comments and comments. It is expected that this proposal will be effective as early as next spring.
