Chicago Still & Box Alarm fire, 11-01-14

This is from Eric Haak:

On Saturday afternoon, just before 4:30 PM on November 1st, a fire broke out on the 1100 block of West 31st Street in Chicago’s Bridgeport neighborhood. The 15th Battalion reported that smoke was coming from the roof of a laundromat. Witnesses at the scene mentioned that roofers had been working on the building just before the fire started. Initially, firefighters launched an aggressive interior attack, but it was quickly halted when the roof supports became unstable. I’ve included several photos showing the four engine companies that responded to the call. Engines 28 and 39 were the first to arrive and positioned themselves in front of the building. Engines 8 and 29 arrived via the box. The truck companies on scene were Trucks 8 and 4, with Tower Ladder 5 also responding. Truck 33 was assigned as the Rapid Intervention Team (RIT).

The fire was contained after a significant effort by multiple units. It's always impressive to see how quickly the Chicago Fire Department responds and works together under pressure. These images give a good sense of the scene and the professionalism of the crews involved.
