Chicago 2-11 Alarm 10-29-12
From the Chicago Tribune: An extra-alarm fire broke out early this morning in a vacant building on the Southeast Side and quickly spread to three other structures, forcing 20 people from their homes, including six children. Officials confirmed that one firefighter was taken to Advocate Trinity Hospital after sustaining a knee injury while fighting the blaze, and a local resident was also hospitalized due to an asthma attack triggered by smoke exposure. Firefighters arrived at the scene around 4:20 a.m. and found a two-story frame building fully engulfed in flames, according to Meg Ahlheim, a spokesperson for the Chicago Fire Department. As the fire spread to three neighboring buildings — one vacant and two occupied — an extra alarm was issued, drawing approximately 100 firefighters and paramedics to the area. The fire was brought under control by around 6 a.m., but the damage remains significant. Residents in the area are being relocated temporarily as investigations into the cause of the fire continue. Local officials are urging residents to remain cautious and stay informed about any updates from emergency services.
